How to Plan for Rain on Your Wedding Day
We know when you imagine your wedding day, you picture sunshine spilling across the pasture, a soft breeze, and the pond glimmering behind you as you say “I do.” But here in Oklahoma, we also know that the weather can have a mind of its own!
The good news? A little rain doesn’t have to dampen your day — not when you plan for it. Here’s how to make sure your celebration is beautiful and stress-free, rain or shine.
⸻
1. Choose a Venue with a Strong Rain Plan (You’re in Good Hands Here!)
At The Barn at Broken Horn Ranch, couples love that they can plan an outdoor ceremony overlooking the pond, knowing there’s a beautiful, climate-controlled indoor space ready if weather turns. The indoor ceremony setup is elegant, spacious, and perfect for photographs — so even if the skies open up, your guests will stay dry, comfortable, and happy.
⸻
2. Communicate Early with Vendors
If you’re hiring florists, photographers, or musicians, make sure everyone knows your Plan B. Your coordinator (or our in-house team, if you’ve added coordination!) can help ensure all vendors are aligned — whether that means rearranging décor inside, shifting equipment, or adjusting timelines to allow the rain to pass.
Pro tip: Ask your photographer to scope out indoor and covered photo spots ahead of time. Rainy-day light can actually make for incredibly romantic photos — and some of our favorite wedding photos ever have been taken with clear umbrellas and a soft drizzle in the background. It’s truly magical.

3. Think Practical (but Stylish!)
If there’s even a slight chance of rain, bring:
• Clear umbrellas for your wedding party — they look amazing in photos!
• Extra towels and a few blankets for cozy comfort.
• Floor mats or rugs near entryways to keep shoes clean and dry
• Waterproof makeup and a hairstyle that can handle a little humidity.
⸻
4. Add Personal Touches that Embrace the Weather
Some couples lean into the rain and make it part of their story. Consider a warm drink station, a welcome sign that says “Rain or Shine — We’re Getting Married!”, or even a rain playlist for cocktail hour.
A drizzle can add such a cozy, magical feel — it’s all about mindset and preparation.
⸻
5. Remember: It’s About the Marriage, Not the Forecast
Rain may change a few details, but it doesn’t change the reason everyone’s there — to celebrate you. Some of our favorite weddings have included a sudden storm and a whole lot of laughter. Guests remember the joy, not the weather.
At the end of the day, rain is just part of your story — and we’ll make sure it’s a beautiful one.
